Luton Airport is Britain's fifth largest airport, only fifty miles from London and with up to nine million passengers passing through its doors things need to run smoothly.
However, new traffic management systems have been having the adverse effect. Passengers who have chosen to take taxis or relied on family or friends to get them to the airport instead of using airport parking have been experiencing long delays being dropped off during peak times.
This month Luton Airport has introduced a new scheme which charges drivers £1.00 to drop off passengers at the terminal entrance. Luton officials say they are trying to improve the parking situation at Luton Airport by encouraging passengers to use their mid stay car park free of charge for drop offs.
But a word of warning to drivers who should be aware that an £80 penalty charge is payable if they drop off passengers on roundabouts, approach roads and bus lanes leading to the airport terminal. Luton states the fine is necessary as the passengers who are not using the Luton airport car parking sites available are creating hazards by walking up to the terminals with their luggage, which has a knock on effect, causing more disruption and traffic congestion. Drivers can pay fifty percent less for the parking fine if they pay up in fourteen days which will be just about when their passengers are returning from their two week holiday and need picking up!
