Heathrow Terminal 5

The facts about Terminal 5
After the longest public enquiry in British history, 46 months to be precise, the construction of Terminal 5 (T5) at Heathrow Airport began in September 2002. It's no small project - the T5 site is a staggering 260 hectares, that's around the same size of Hyde Park.
The main terminal building is one of 16 major projects underway on the site including the terminal's satellite building (itself larger than Terminal 4), a new air traffic control tower, Heathrow Express and Piccadilly Line extensions and the Track Transit System - an automated transport system that will transfer passengers from the main terminal to satellite buildings. The main terminal will be used for short-haul flights with the satellite terminals used for long-haul flights.
The main Terminal 5 building (or T5A) is large enough to house 10 football pitches measuring, as it does, 396 metres in length and 176 metres wide while standing at almost 40 metres in height. The roof will weigh a total of 18,500 tonnes.
With a waveform roof and glazed facades offering spectacular views across the airfield, the inside of T5A will be a sight to behold. With 105 lifts, 65 escalators, 150 check-in desks the passenger experience has been at the forefront of BAA's designs for Terminal 5.
Luxury shopping
Terminal 5 will offer an extensive retail experience with 150 retail units, 25 restaurants and around 3,250m2 of Duty Free shopping. As the March opening date gets closer, BAA have announced an array of big names signing on for retail space at the new Terminal 5. At present, passengers browsing the retail floor at T5A can expect to see names such as Kurt Gieger, Ted Baker, Paul Smith and legendary jewelers Tiffany offering the latest in high fashion.
Managing Director of BAA Retail, Colin Hargrave states that "Terminal 5 will offer a unique and exciting retail experience for everyone passing through."
For relaxing after all that shopping Terminal 5 will also offer plenty of places for a cup of coffee and a quick bite with Starbucks, Caffe Nero and Apostrophe providing coffee lovers a good variety in their choice of brew. Passengers looking for fine dining will be able to find it with The Caviar House and Gordon Ramsay among the many restaurants at Terminal 5.
Parking at T5
As BAA are planning to move all of their operations to Terminal 5, parking will be of optimum importance. Work underway at the Terminal 5 site includes that on a new 4,000 space multi-storey parking structure.
At Parking4less we are proud to announce that we will be able to offer our usual low prices on parking at the all new Terminal 5 when it opens in March 2008. For all your
