Planning your trip - tips for a smooth ride
If you're flying...
Book an airport hotel: Most charter flights and a lot of the scheduled services to European holiday destinations leave Britain early in the morning. Factor in the long check-in times now required and you can be in for a very early start. A 7am departure, for example, entails checking in at 5am, which might mean leaving home at 3am - not an ideal start for adults, let alone young children. As more budget hotels open up at airports, it is worth considering spending the night in one to bag a couple of hours' more sleep.
Best value of all are deals that include car parking for the duration of your trip. These packages can be excellent value, often costing little more than you would otherwise spend on parking at the airport.
Before booking, check three things: Where will the car be parked (is it a secure site)? How far is the hotel from the airport? And how frequent are the shuttles between hotel and terminals? For all this information and more visit Parking4less.
Consider chauffeur parking: with this service, a driver meets you at the departure terminal. He takes your car away for parking, and when you fly home, meets you again with your car at arrivals making the end of your journey more pleasurable.
