Vatican launches airline
The first airline for Catholic pilgrims has been launched. The inaugural flight took place on Monday from Fiumicino Airport, Rome to Lourdes, France.
Its chartered Boeing 737 complete with Vatican logos on headrests and air hostesses' uniforms aims to serve 150,000 pilgrims a year. The new airline's slogan is: 'I'm Searching for Your Face, Lord'.
The airlines destinations will include the shrine of Fatima in Portugal, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico and Mount Sinai in Egypt.
It also hopes to fly pilgrims from Rome to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, a route already available from Ryanair. A spokesman for Ryanair said: 'Ryanair already performs miracles that even the Pope's boss can't rival, by delivering pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela for the heavenly price of €10.'
