Liverpool Street Christmas and New Year closure to hit Stansted Express

During the period December 23 to January 1 London's Liverpool Street Station will be closed as several construction projects will be taking place during that time. This will hit passengers wanting to take the Stansted Express service that operates between the station and Stansted Airport.

During this time all Stansted Express services from Stansted Airport will terminate at Tottenham Hale, to allow interchange with the London Underground Victoria Line. Stansted Express trains to the airport will also start from Tottenham Hale.

Customers holding tickets for travel to Liverpool Street will be able to use their tickets on any special connecting bus service to Liverpool Street and the London Underground Victoria Line to Kings Cross St. Pancras. At times when the London Underground is not operating, buses will run between Tottenham Hale and Liverpool Street.

However, please note that on December 25 there will be no train service or coach replacement service operating between Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street. On December 26, a direct coach service will run between Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street.

bmi to begin USA flights in 2009

UK carrier bmi has announced that it will begin its transatlantic flights in 2009 - a year after the Europe-USA open skies pact takes effect.

Speaking during an interview at a recent conference, bmi chief executive Nigel Turner said that the airline will launch services between Heathrow Airport and destinations in the USA at this later date so that it has time to examine demand and competition levels, Bloomberg reports.

The open skies agreement, signed earlier this year, is expected to allow airlines to operate more transatlantic services and increase choice for travellers from March 2008, with bmi previously thought to be one of the carriers set to benefit the most from the deal.

"We're not going to jump in in April. We're going to postpone our entry into the market until 2009," Mr Turner commented.
