Stansted airport is in training for the Olympics. With only 365 day s to go to the start of the 2012 Olympic Games it's important that all U.K airports and London airports like Stansted are in optimum shape to deal with the thousands of extra passengers travelling to the airport during the games. Stansted airport have announced that they have been in practise over the last few months with big events like the state visit from the American President Barak Obama and the Champion League Final held at Wembley. Stansted airport has stated that it is the nearest major international airport to the main Olympic village site and is preparing to deal with many competitors and their fans. The airport staff at the Stansted Terminal will also have a big task of taking care of all the extra luggage too. The competitors will be bringing tonnes of different shaped kit and equipment which will have to be safely handled by the Stansted baggage handlers. They will also have to deal with the logistics of all the equipment needed for the equine events including the horses. The main equestrian events will be held at Londons Greenwich Park Stansted airport is putting plans in place now for a "Team Stansted" to get all the Olympic passengers and their unusual luggage to the events in time for next summer.
Stansted airport twenty year anniversary
Stansted airport is having a busy 2011 celebrating their twenty year anniversary. The airport now flys nearly nineteen million passengers to 140 destinations ranging from Amsterdam to Zaragoza. Stansted Airport is home to the largest surface car park in Europe, providing over twenty six thousand airport car parking spaces for travellers which is good news for people choosing to park at Stansted.
They offer valet car parking which is ideal for business travellers on the move and with less time to use the long stay parking on offer. For other drivers using the long stay car parking there is a free shuttle bus. Passengers to and from the car park to the Stansted Terminal should allow an extra thirty minutes for to be on the safe side.
Stanstead Airport is driving ahead better services for business travellers and families. Airport visitors can now access broadband, wireless internet access throughout both the departure and arrival terminals in Stansted. There are also fixed internet terminals and broadband connected pc desks. Private airport lounges are at gates 16 and 49 for business passengers. At Sansted there is an airport information desk in the international arrivals lounge where it is possible to photocopy documents, send and receive faxes and print off boarding cards for £3.00. Some airlines offer fast track security for selected business travellers.
Families parking at Stansted airport will be pleased to know that in the airport departure lounge there are lots of child friendly ways of passing time at the airport. There are four family rooms and convenient baby changing areas to choose from. Most of the restaurants provide high chairs and children's menus often with a fun colouring pack to keep the junior travellers happy. For older children there is a video games lounge both before and after security. Stansed airport security will allow prams,buggys and car seats through at the security gates too. But its always worth double checking with the airline provider if they are happy to take childrens equipment on board.

Stansted Airport have stated that everyday they collect over twenty household bins worth of unpermitted items from passengers hand luggage. Stansted have asked passengers to check the contents of their hand luggage before they leave their hotel, car park or home. Travellers flying from Stansted must place any liquids in a clear re- sealable bag which is less than 20cm x 20cm. Passengers who have checked their hand luggage and followed the airport security check guidelines will have less time queuing to get through security stansted airport security checking area.
